I am writing this for a friend of mine who lost her horse a couple of days ago… this is for you and your horse who has gone to the other side…
Loss
We all have to deal with it at one point in our lives, the passing away of a loved one… It is painful. It shakes up our balance, because a hole is now where a being was present. And as our outer world reflects our inner world, our inner world is affected and reflected by the outer world…
Spirit
The physical realm is beautiful. We can touch one another and smell each others scent. We can see each others emotional expressions through the body and hear sounds, words, whinnies, snorts and groans… and we can share the taste of an apple… But true feelings of joy are not experienced in the physical realm, the physical realm is an instigator to experience beauty, happiness, love, relaxation, curiousness and connection on other levels… The joy your loved one gives you would not be the same when his spirit wouldn’t be in his body. Because the body is a vehicle. A beautiful vehicle that deserves love and respect, but it would be merely flesh and bones, without the spirit of his being residing in it.
When the body leaves, the spirit can still be contacted. We can still experience all our senses but this takes place on a more subtle level. The level where we once felt connection thanks to the portal of physicality. Now we start from the portal of connection, an immediate heart to heart and soul to soul connection. We then intensify this connection through feeling the joy of connection…
Horses are actually masters in teaching us exactly this. Because they already connect in the physical realm in this way. It is a natural state of being, a state that we also carry inside us but often is a dormant state… Most of the people who are together with horses and have a two way communication with their horse, have been taught this way of connecting by them. Because it is impossible to listen to your horse, when your heart is closed. These people use their feel. This same feel can be experienced from distance, even with those who have gone to the other side… Just call out to your horse, stay open and feel in the same way as he would stand in front of you but you wouldn’t touch him…
Freedom
When someone dies it is possible that their spirit lingers. That it is trapped in the in between… The ancient rituals, I believe, were meant to help these spirits go to the other side, where spirits are free… But a spirit can only be free, when we let them go. Many souls are stuck in the in between… There are several reasons for this, but one of them is because we cannot let them go. It is important to take your time to grieve, but when the time is ready it is a beautiful gift to set the spirit of your horse free. You could do this by doing a ritual, one that suits you and your horse, with the intention to let go of your pain and set your horse free. A ritual can be anything you do with an intention and an open heart. You can also ask your horse for forgiveness. This is a very powerful thing to ask your horse….
When I make contact with a horse I always like to thank them. I sing to them and I think it is a beautiful way of expressing my love. When I sing I can feel how thankful I am for their presence in our lives, for the love they give us, for who they are…
